Job description

We are seeking a Mechanical Designer/Drafter to join our product engineering team. The successful candidate will actively participate in the design, development, documentation, and improvement of intermodal trailers, from the conceptual phase through to production support.

Under the supervision of the product engineering manager, the designer will carry out 3D modeling, detailed design, 2D drafting, creation of bills of materials (BOMs) as well as electrical and pneumatic diagrams, in close collaboration with the engineering, production, quality and industrialization teams.

Tasks
  • Create 3D mechanical designs for intermodal trailers and their sub-assemblies (chassis, welded structures, mechanical components, integrated systems)
  • Produce 2D technical production drawings (general arrangement drawings, detail drawings, material lists, tolerances, welding symbols)
  • Create and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), parts lists, and technical data associated with products.
  • Develop and maintain electrical diagrams (lighting, harnesses, sensors, connections, control components)
  • Develop and maintain pneumatic diagrams (braking systems, valves, lines, actuators)
  • Collaborating with product engineers to translate functional, regulatory, and customer requirements into robust and manufacturable technical solutions
  • Incorporate manufacturing, welding, assembly, maintenance, and cost constraints into the designs.
  • Apply design principles for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA)
  • Ensure that designs comply with applicable standards (transport, safety, electrical and pneumatic standards)
  • Participate in design reviews and the technical validation process
  • Participate in testing, verification and validation of designs when required
  • Supporting production during the launch of new products or technical modifications
  • Update the technical documentation throughout the product lifecycle
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement activities of existing products

  • Proficient in 3D modeling, assembly, and manufacturing drawing.
  • Good understanding of welded mechanical structures
  • Ability to produce clear and complete manufacturing plans
  • Knowledge of dimensional and geometric tolerancing (GD&T) (an asset)
  • Basic knowledge of electro-pneumatics
  • Ability to read and interpret: mechanical drawings, welding symbols, electrical and pneumatic diagrams
  • Knowledge of metal manufacturing processes (cutting, bending, welding, assembly)

Personal skills and abilities

  • Rigour and attention to detail
  • Analytical mind and approach structured
