Job description

Reporting to the Director of Finance and working closely with the Financial Controller, the incumbent plays a key role in payroll management and supporting accounting operations in a manufacturing environment.

Tasks

Pay

  • Ensure complete bi-weekly payroll processing for both salaried and unionized employees.
  • Ensure compliance with Quebec legislation and collective agreements (overtime, bonuses, vacation, holidays).
  • Managing source deductions, contributions (QPP, QPIP, CNESST), employee benefits and employee files.
  • Produce year-end slips (T4, Relevé 1) and perform the required reconciliations.
  • Collaborating with HR for the processing of files (hiring, departure, disability, CNESST).
  • Answering employee questions regarding payroll (FR/EN).

Accounting and Finance

  • Participate in monthly and annual closing procedures (book entries, reconciliations, accounts payable).
  • Ensuring the accounts payable cycle.
  • Prepare and reconcile payroll-related accounts and certain balance sheet items.
  • Contribute to financial statements, analyses and management reports.
  • Support audits and maintain effective internal controls.

Process improvement

  • Optimize payroll systems and ensure data integrity.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements.
  • Document procedures and produce ad hoc reports.
Required qualifications
  • Training in accounting, finance or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in payroll and/or accounting (manufacturing environment, an asset).
  • Experience with payroll for unionized employees and interpretation of collective agreements.
  • Good knowledge of Quebec payroll laws.
  • Proficiency in Excel and payroll software (ADP, Nethris , Ceridian , etc.).
  • Good command of French and English.
  • Rigour, organisational skills, autonomy and team spirit.
Skills
  • Proficiency in payroll processing (salaried and unionized employees).
  • Good knowledge of Quebec laws and collective agreements.
  • Solid foundation in accounting (reconciliations, journal entries, period-end closing).
  • Excellent command of Excel and payroll software.
  • Rigour, attention to detail and respect for deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve discrepancies.
  • Good communication skills (French and English).
  • Team spirit, discretion and organizational skills.
