Job description

The Senior Production Planner is responsible for developing an optimal short-term and long-term manufacturing plan to ensure the fulfillment of market demands while considering facility capacity and constraints and guaranteeing adherence to delivery commitments.  Must have a comprehensive understanding of existing and future capacity plan/constraints for the manufacturing plant.  Acting as a key liaison between internal teams, clients and additional stakeholders, they are responsible for capacity planning, strategic priorities, proactive management of operational risks, and improvement of planning processes.

Tasks

Strategic and operational planning

  • Develop and maintain a master production plan aligned with delivery objectives and sales forecasts.
  • Assess resource capacity (equipment, workforce, cycle time) and propose adjustment strategies.
  • Directing short, medium and long term scheduling according to business constraints and priorities.
  • Formulate contingency strategies to maintain operational continuity during market fluctuations and supply shortages

 Execution and management of delivery

  • Monitor the daily execution of production and intervene to correct any deviations that threaten deadlines.
  • Maintain a dashboard of customer deliveries (OTD – On Time Delivery) and ensure its performance.
  • Communicate with production teams to ensure a clear understanding of priorities and deliverables.
  • Play an active role in operations meetings and act as the point of contact for delivery dates.

 Critical Supply Management

  • Anticipate future needs for raw materials, components and capacity.
  • Working with purchasing to accelerate, postpone or adjust orders based on delivery dates.
  • Identify supply risks and propose mitigation plans.

Process optimization

  • Standardize planning practices and improve the use of ERP/MRP.
  • Develop advanced performance metrics: OTD, adherence to plan, cycle time, capacity rate.
  • Recommend improvements to the sequence of operations, production flow, and inventory levels.

Leadership and collaboration

  • To act as a liaison between sales, customer service, production and logistics.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Kaizen, 5S, etc.).
Required qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in operations management, industrial engineering, logistics, administration or mathematics.
  • Professional certification (APICS CPIM, CSCP or PMP) is a major asset.
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years of experience in production planning in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in managing customer deadlines and delivery-oriented planning.
  • Fluent proficiency in French and English
Skills
  • Advanced mastery of an ERP/MRP system (Genius, an asset).
  • Excellent understanding of manufacturing flows, BOMs, routings and capacity management.
  • Strong Excel skills (Power BI, Power Query, pivot tables, advanced analytics).
  • Natural leadership and ability to influence.
  • Keen sense of urgency and strong results/delivery orientation.
  • Adaptability and proactivity.
  • Meticulous, analytical thinking and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both with internal teams and with internal/external clients.
