Master Painter
Job description
We are looking for an experienced Master Painter to join our team. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in painting preparation and application, with the ability to work independently and maintain high-quality standards. A deep understanding of painting techniques, as well as the ability to diagnose and resolve painting-related issues, is essential.
Tasks
Surface preparation
- Ability to clean and prepare surfaces for painting.
- Ability to recognize and correct surface preparation defects.
- Ability to train coworkers to adequately prepare surfaces.
- Ability to clean and apply sealant before painting.
Painting
- Capable of working independently, with excellent execution speed, while maintaining quality.
- Able to follow all manufacturer’s paint instructions, including uniformity of thickness and overall finish.
- In-depth knowledge of paint mixing and capable of performing all required mixes.
- Extensive knowledge of paint application techniques.
- Familiar with drying times that must be adhered to.
- Knowledge of viscosity measurements.
- Able to detect all defects and perform repairs professionally.
- Capable of adjusting paint ratios according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Ability to demonstrate and guide other painters.
- Adjustment of pumps and painting equipment.
- Aware of recoat times based on product parameters, and according to atmospheric conditions and ambient temperatures (Winter/Summer).
- Ensure the cleaning and maintenance of paint and primer guns.
- Make sure to have clean air caps and nozzles on hand and ready for use.
- Drain each pump according to defined procedures.
- Manage paint drums: replacement, labeling, and disposal.
- Maintain pumps and painting equipment.
- Manage waste and keep the areas clean and organized.
- Fill out the required documents and information.
- Capable of self-inspection.
- Performs touch-ups and paint repairs without supervision.
Required qualifications
- Understanding of technical drawings.
- Hold a vocational diploma and/or have relevant experience, minimum 10 years, related to the position.
- Have the necessary training or experience to diagnose and solve painting problems.
- Hold a certification for operating a forklift. Able to move parts with a forklift.
- Capable of safely handling parts and trailer modules.
- Hold a certification for the use of overhead cranes.
- Successfully complete practical and theoretical tests. These qualification tests will be approved by the paint manufacturer. The frequency of qualification will be annual.
- Be able and available to complete all required training.

- Understand and apply PVA principles and continuous improvement, including just-in-time and tact time.

- Work in compliance with all health and safety rules. High level of vigilance.
- Knowledge of WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System).
